When installing your new boiler there are certain factors which can make a huge difference in terms of the efficiency and the price of the new system. We are going to mention only the 5 most common factors here. These can be very important when choosing a new location to your new boiler.

1. The most important question is. Are you actually changing the boiler only or converting the your heating and hot water system? If the answer is changing the system then continue to read on as it can save you a lot of headache in the future.
2. Gas pipe sizing. How far is the new boiler location from the gas meter? It is important even when you want to fit your boiler in the same place as before. If converting system (removing hot water tank) and install a new combi boiler the gas consumption will most likely increase as the combi boiler heats the hot water instantaneously therefore uses a lot of gas. The minimum heat input for a new combi boiler is 24kw. In contrast if you had a so called conventional heating system the heat input is much less. Usually old boilers have 15mm gas pipe connections and can deal with heat inputs around 18kw max. Changing the gas pipe can put the price up significantly. Consult with your heating engineer before deciding about what system you want to install.
3. Flue run. Always try to install your boiler to an external wall. It is the safest and cheapest to install. When trying to install boilers in loft spaces or airing cupboards without an external wall it is always going to be more labour and more flue pipes so the price will go up. Not to mention the maintenance cost of a longer flue run. Always try to keep your boiler on an external wall.
4. Condensate connection. In most cases you are replacing an old non condensing boiler so you need to think about the cost of the condensate connection to your new boiler. The shortest the condensate pipe run the better it will perform and the easiest to maintain. Condensate water can be run from the new boiler in plastic pipe to the nearest drain or waste pipe. Such as soul stack, sink waste or the easiest is probably the washing machine waste pipe.
5. Access and hot water outlets. Try to locate the combi boiler close to the most commonly used hot water outlets such as the shower and sink. It may be more practical to install your new combi boiler in the loft  to free up space in the airing cupboard but think about any problems with the boiler and you will be climbing up in the loft on a daily basis in the middle of the winter. Not so good. New condensing boilers have a lot of electrical controls and self diagnostic functions which result in ‘lock out’ so you have to manually reset the boiler on a daily or sometimes hourly basis until someone will come and fix it for you. Not so much fun.
