Combi boiler repair Cambridge and Combi bolier installation Cambridge FAQ

What is a combi boiler anyway?

– Its a short for combination boiler where the boiler ‘combines’ the production of  heating and hot water in one single unit. It makes the hot water instantly. Meaning it will only make the hot water when you open the hot tap, it doesn’t store any hot water at all.

Why combi boilers are so popular?

– Well,  they save a lot of space eleminating the need for a hot water cylinder or the nasty tanks in the loft.

What are the risks of having a combi boiler installed when my existing boiler and cylinder is 20 years old?

– The existing system is most likely a vented system meaning that is not pressurised. Nor the hot water pipes and hot water taps and nor the radiators or radiator valves. When converting an old conventional heating system into the newer combination sytem there is always a risk of leaks occuring right after the istallation or a certain period of time after that. However people love to have combi boilers as the save a lot of space and give you much better pressure performance compared to the conventional vented systems.

Whats the catch?

– Hmm, when the combi boiler breaks down than you have no heating and no hot water, the problem is that new appliances have to comply with so many regulations that they become very sophisticated pieces of equipments. Especially combi boilers which have the most moving and electronic parts squeezed into a very small unit. Combi boilres have the most possibilty to break down therfore it is highly recommended that you keep it serviced with a ‘proper’ company and also make sure that you get a longest possible manufacturers warranty when getting a new one.
